What is power flushing?
Power flushing is the best way to clean your heating system thoroughly and can help to extend your heating system’s life. It also provides benefits such as:
- Better energy efficiency
- Better heat distribution throughout your property
- Lower household heating bills
- Increased reliability
Why do I need to power flush?
It has been proven that component failure can occur due to poor water quality and a build-up of sludge. The sludge reduces the pipe diameter causing excess pressure and heat which can then lead to leaks, overheating components and valve breakdown. Also, if there is excess acid in the system then seals, diaphragms, valves and springs can rot and perish.
Signs that your system might need a power flush
Symptoms of a system that may require a power flush include:
- Unusual noises coming from your boiler
- Radiators need bleeding more often than usual
- Cold patches at the bottom of your radiators
- System takes longer to heat up than usual
Power flush preparation
Before we carry out a power flush, we test your system to ensure that it has been properly pre-commission cleaned. This is necessary to check if there corrosion is taking place or if it is likely to in the near future. From this result, we can then decide which method of cleaning is best to clean your system.
Power flush process
The power flushing machine is connected to the existing heating system and we power flush each radiator separately. We isolate and flush each radiator and then the boiler itself with fresh water to remove any contaminants. Once your system is cleaned, we then carry out a second water test to ensure that all deposits have been removed.
When we’re satisfied with the tests, we add a corrosion inhibitor and again test the levels to ensure that the correct amount of protection fluid is in place.
How much does a power flush cost?
On average, our charge for power flushing your entire central heating system is around £220. We’d encourage you to shop around – we’re consistently among the cheapest on Merseyside!
